15.08.2017 12:00:00 | Employees of LocoTech have collected 3 tons of garbage in Baikal

On August 9, 2017 on Olkhon Island (Irkutsk region) the all-Russia action "Save Baikal" on cleaning the garbage of Saraysky beach and forest zone took place. About 100 volunteers, including 60 employees of LocoTech from across the country took part in the event.

During the work nearly 3 tons of solid household waste have been collected. Also the volunteers carried out the educational work with tourists on the topic of nature care, promoting selective garbage collection and public control and monitoring of the natural area.

LocoTech Group, whose staff formed the major part of the volunteers, assumed the role of the general partner of the action. Managing Director for production security and interaction with oversight bodies of LocoTech Pavel Morozov said: «LocoTech is the largest service company for repair and maintenance of locomotives in Russia. We operate in 64 regions of the country. As a major production company, we pay major attention to environmental issues. We have adopted "Green Doctrine of LocoTech” - environmental policy, which involves the introduction of innovative technologies and investment in environmental protection measures. In 2017, the year of ecology, LocoTech allocates almost 400 million rubles for environmental initiatives. Today's action is very important to us - we've collected about 3 tons of various garbage. And we hope that after the employees return home, they’ll will replicate their experience and active approach to their colleagues, nurse love and responsible attitude to nature". 

“We are not only clean the territory, we do educational work with schools, universities across the country. We tell about careful attitude to nature. Year after year our work brings tangible results,” says “Save Baikal” project manager Maxim Tokarev. 

The action was sponsored by the Ministry of natural resources and environment of the Russian Federation, Federal service for supervision in the sphere of nature use and Administration of the Irkutsk region, FGBU “Zapovednoe Baikalie”, Lake Baikal Preservation Foundation, etc. 

Over 6 years "Save Baikal” project conducts its work in Irkutsk region and the Republic of Buryatia, and during this time over 200 coastal and forest zone clean-up activities have been conducted; awareness-raising; the characteristic of the Baikal region has been compiled, on the basis of which the conclusions and recommendations on arrangement of the tourist zone and SPNA (specially protected natural area) have been proposed, etc.
